South west London parking spaces to be replaced with bike hangers


On June 17, 2025, Merton Council issued a new traffic order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to remove or reduce parking spaces and install bike hangers across southwest London.
Effective from Monday, July 1, 2024, the orders and related documents can be inspected at Merton Civic Centre, Morden, or online.
Below is the schedule of changes as advertised on the Public Notice Portal:
- Acre Road, Colliers Wood: One parking space removed for a bike hangar near No. 52 Briscoe Road.
- Boundary Road, Colliers Wood: One parking space removed for two bike hangars near No. 82 Briscoe Road.
- Devonshire Road, Colliers Wood: Parking spaces reduced for bike hangars near Cavendish Road and No. 1 Watson Close.
- Kipling Drive, South Wimbledon: Parking space reduced for a bike hangar opposite Nos. 159-165 Kipling Drive.
- North Road, South Wimbledon: Parking space reduced for a bike hangar opposite Kipling Drive.
- Palmerston Grove, SW1: Parking space reduced for a bike hangar near No. 96 Palmerston Road.
- Robinson Road, Colliers Wood: Parking space reduced for a bike hangar near No. 37 Devonshire Road.
- Stroud Road, SW19: Parking space reduced for a bike hangar near No. 44 Melrose Avenue.
- Vectis Road, SW17: Parking space reduced for a bike hangar opposite No. 20 Jersey Road.
The orders also propose the introduction of pedal cycle hire parking places on Edge Hill, SW19.
New orders for a controlled parking zone "GC4" will be introduced in Streatham Road and The Driftway, effective from July 3, 2024. Parking places will operate Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm.
Temporary restrictions due to rail bridge maintenance will be imposed on Lower Downs Road, Raynes Park. During the works, no vehicles or pedestrians will be allowed in the restricted section, and parking will be suspended. These restrictions will be indicated by traffic signs and will not apply to persons or vehicles involved in the works.
Objections to the orders can be submitted in writing to the Environment and Regeneration Department, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, SM4 5DX, or emailed to trafficandhighways@merton.gov.uk by July 12, 2024.
