Drivers Urged to Remain Vigilant Following Sunbury Car Park Scam

A warning has been issued by Surrey Police after three men, posing as parking wardens, managed to steal credit cards from unsuspecting drivers at Sunbury Cross Centre in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey.

The incident occurred on Saturday, when the men approached motorists in the car park and instructed them to pay for their parking using a hand-held card machine. However, the device they used appeared to malfunction, with the cards seemingly being swallowed up by the machine.

Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and ensure they only use legitimate payment methods when parking. Drivers are advised to make payments through official ticket machines or the authorised online parking app, rather than trusting any individuals with hand-held card readers. Authorities have expressed concern over this scam and are advising motorists to report any suspicious activity immediately to help prevent further incidents.

The fraudulent trio’s tactics highlight the growing risks of card fraud in everyday situations, and police are actively investigating the matter. They are also reminding local residents and visitors to Sunbury Cross Centre to exercise caution when approached by individuals offering unconventional payment methods.
